Home Sweet Home!

Carolyn was ready for a new start…and a new home! Life had forced her to make some hard choices. She had been renting for several years, but her focus was on owning a home again.

“Homeownership is what I hope and pray for everyone. You want to own your own home,” she said.

Carolyn said there were a lot of reasons she was ready to buy a home. “Your rent is always changing, and the landlord fixes things if they want—you are at the mercy of the landlord,” she said. “Renting was an unstable feeling for me. You are paying someone else instead of investing in your own property.”

Carolyn took steps to become ready to buy a home. She enrolled in a homebuyer education workshop at Neighborhood Housing Services Oklahoma, which equipped and empowered her. “The homebuyer education class was wonderful! I was so impressed by the staff,” she said. “I learned so much! They really want people to become homeowners. They were all in!” She also worked to improve her credit score and was actively searching for just the right home. She found it at NHS Oklahoma.

Carolyn qualified for down payment assistance and purchased a new home built by NHS Oklahoma. “I picked the paint color for the outside. I wanted a pretty blue,” she said. “When it was time to move in, I loved unpacking my boxes. I love having a yard for my dogs, and I am ready to garden again. It is a dream come true!”
